Speechless is the 22nd episode of the sixth season and 144th overall. Debra Messing is notably absent in this episode due to her pregnancy.

Karen, Will, and Rosario attend Jack's graduation from nursing school.

Synopsis[]

On the eve of his graduation from nursing school, a nervous Jack turns to Will for help writing his commencement address. Reconnecting with his past dreams of being an accomplished playwright, Will over-analyzes the speech, searching for the life experience that sent Jack to nursing school as a source of inspiration.

  • Grace, who slept through the whole episode, does not appear. Debra Messing is credited but does not appear.
  • Jack's new career wasn't as fun as the writers had hoped, so it was decided that he would leave nursing.
  • The singing nurse at Jack's graduation is played by actress Amy Crofoot who has played several bit roles since the first season. This is her first character with speaking (singing) lines.
  • While riding the limo to Jack's graduation ceremony, the group discuss actress Diahann Carroll. Carroll had previously starred in Lonesome Dove with Eric McCormack.
